The European Technology & Innovation Platform on Smart Networks for Energy Transition (ETIP SNET), has recently published a white paper on the flexible generation which evaluates all major energy generation systems.
This informative and concise white paper, titled "Flexible generation in a low-carbon RES dominated energy system", highlights how fit the energy generation systems are and what needs to be done to guarantee unlimited dispatchability and flexibility to the end-use sectors (households, industry, transport).
The paper specifically contains information and policy recommendations on the following topics:
- The current state of energy systems and how we should see them evolve to become more flexible, digitalised, integrated, efficient and circular in its CO2 and resource usage.
- Exploring the challenges of replacing carbon fuels by low- or zero-carbon fuels by sector
- Depicting short- and long-term futures of our energy systems with an emphasis on low- or zero-carbon fuels and fuel flexibility
- A call for policy changes and recommendations for policymakers that would help make the system more flexible
Later this month, a webinar also entitled "Flexible generation in a low-carbon RES dominated energy system" and also presented by the same authors of the publication should take place.
ETIP SNET is a platform created by the European Commission in the framework of the new Integrated Roadmap Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan and its objective is to gather a multitude of stakeholders and experts from the energy sector.
