Under the lead of EU Turbines, Energy Technologies Europe co-signed a joint letter with Cogen Europe, EBA, EU Turbines, ETN, EUGINE, SolarPower Europe and WindEurope, to stress the need for the free movement of staff to ensure the security of energy supply during the coronavirus crisis.

The joint letter, sent on 30 March and addressed to the EU Commissioners Johansson (Home Affairs), Schmit (Jobs and Social Rights), and Simson (Energy), reflects the concerns of power plant manufacturers about the limitations in free movement (which could limit their ability to provide power plant operators with the support in personnel and parts that might be needed in case of outages or maintenance needs) and asks for a rapid solution.

A communication from the European Commission issued later that day reflects these recommendations by asking the Members States to ensure the free movement of "Engineering professionals such as energy technicians, engineers and electrical engineering technicians".
